The Seven Holy Virtues. o_o; Doing too much research about sins and shit. God. >_>; Anyway, here goes!
Chastity ( Latin - Castitas )( Opposes - Lust )
The word derives, via the French chasteté, from the Latin castitas, which is the abstract of castus (the root of chaste), which originally meant a 'pure' state of conformity with the Greco-Roman religion, rather the practical counterpart of a pious (Latin pius) state of mind, in no way limited to the sexual sphere. As the etymological link suggests, castigation or chastisement is originally the use of (harsh) means to preserve or restore this state as a form of catharsis. This meaning is preserved fully in the parallel term chastening.
Abstinence ( Latin - Frenum ) ( Opposes - Gluttony )
Abstinence is a voluntary restraint from indulging a desire or appetite for certain bodily activities that are widely experienced as giving pleasure. Most frequently, the term refers to abstention from sexual intercourse, alcohol or food. The practice can arise from religious prohibitions or practical considerations.
Liberality ( Latin - Liberalitas ) ( Opposes - Greed )
Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. A liberal society is characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy, free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected.
Diligence ( Latin - Industria ) ( Opposes - Sloth )
( No article of it. Wtf. )
Zealous and careful nature in one's actions and work. Decisive work ethic. Budgeting one's time; monitoring one's own activities to guard against laziness.
Patience ( Latin - Patientia ) ( Opposes - Wrath )
In the Christian religion, patience is one of the most valuable virtues of life. Increasing patience is viewed as the work of the Holy Spirit in the Christian who has accepted the gift of salvation. Christianity's value of patience as a moral is evidenced in the following bible references. In the Christian Bible, patience is considered one of the fruits of the spirit as said in the verse Galatians 5:22. Patience in Islam is one of the best and most valuable virtues of life. Through patience, a Muslim believes that an individual can grow closer to God and thus attain true peace. It is also stressed in Islam, that God is with those who are patient, more specifically during suffering.
Kindness ( Latin - Humanitas ) ( Opposes - Envy )
Kindness is the act or the state of charitable behaviour to other people and considered to be one of the Knightly Virtues, and is a recognized value in many cultures and religions (see ethics in religion). It is considered to be one of the seven virtues, specifically the one of the Seven Contrary Virtues (direct opposites of the seven deadly sins) that is the direct opposite to envy[1]. The Talmud claims that "deeds of kindness are equal in weight to all the commandments." Paul of Tarsus defines love as being `patient and kind...` (I Corinthians).
Humility ( Latin - Humilitas) ( Opposes - Pride )
Humility is a quality or characteristic ascribed to a person who is considered to be humble. "Humility is derived from the Latin word "humilis", which means low, humble, from earth.[1] A humble person is generally thought to be unpretentious and modest: someone who does not think that he or she is better or more important than others. The concept of humility in various religions is often much more precise and extensive. Humility is not to be confused with humiliation, which is the act of making someone else feel ashamed, and is something completely different
This is getting irritating. Anyway.
Restraint is the keystone of the seven holy virtues. The other holy virtues are created through selfless pursuits:
Valour — Pursuit of Courage and Knowledge
Generosity — Pursuit of Giving
Liberality — Pursuit of Will
Diligence — Pursuit of Ethics
Patience — Pursuit of Peace
Kindness — Pursuit of Charity
Humility — Pursuit of Modesty
